Art and design in universities is an independent discipline that encompasses industrial design, environmental art design, and visual communication design. It also involves various fields such as fine arts, ergonomics, sculpture, architectural foundations, furniture design, decorative culture, landscape art, color psychology, materials science, software operation, and model making. The establishment of art and design laboratories in universities has a long history. However, with the development of the times, the majority of traditional art and design experimental teaching methods are no longer able to meet the requirements of modern art education. By introducing 3D printing technology, especially SLS technology, which eliminates the need for support structures during printing, it completely breaks the limitations of traditional techniques. This enables the easy and precise realization of students' creative ideas, thereby rapidly enhancing their design innovation and creative abilities.
With the continuous development of the 3D printing industry, the cultivation of 3D printing professionals is still in its infancy. The entire industry is facing a huge talent gap, and the current job market cannot provide strong talent support. Universities have introduced 3D printing technology to establish specialized laboratories, enhancing students' comprehensive mastery of art and design majors. This not only consolidates students' application abilities in 3D design software but also enhances their understanding and operation of 3D printers. It aims to cultivate creative and versatile talents with practical skills for society, further expanding students' employment prospects.
A The 3D printing laboratory at a certain art academy is a typical example of the "industry-university-research" collaboration model. By deeply cooperating with enterprises to jointly build the 3D printing laboratory, it achieves the complementary use of professional talent resources and enterprise equipment technology resources, as well as resource sharing, integrating students' creative thinking with the technical practice of enterprises. During the communication, the laboratory teacher also mentioned that the art academy is currently preparing for a government cultural and creative 3D printing project that spans provinces. Due to the large scale of the project, the relevant team at the art academy comprehensively considered various factors such as the surface effect of printed products, comprehensive mechanical performance, weather resistance, production cycle, and production cost, and compared them with the dozens of 3D printing process equipment currently available in the laboratory. Finally, it was unanimously decided to use the TPM3D S260 printing system to complete the production of the project's products.
Currently, the application of 3D printing in the teaching of art and design majors in universities has played a significant role in school instruction, student learning, student employment, school research, and enterprise development.
